The smooth rolling bearing of this device supports a hanging mass that contains a 1mW laser. With a small twist you can activate the laser pointer and mark the position of the hanging mass while it is rotating. On the sturdy base, a movable phototransistor can be positioned to mark the exact position of the rotating mass. When the rotating mass with laser is directly above the sensor, a signal is sent to your computerÍs Vernier Software. This provides a much more accurate method of measuring the rotation radius and an automatic recording of results. Attached to the base is a dual range force sensor, ±10N or ±50N, which replaces the traditional method of using hanging masses to find the centripetal force. When used with the laser pointer and phototransistor, the force sensor can be used to pull the mass to the same exact position it had when it was rotating. This insures an extremely accurate experiment with precise measurements. The laser is 1 mW and has a wavelength of 650 nm. Requires Vernier software, available separately. Size: 43 x 33 x 20cm; weight: 20 lbs.
