Nearly Zero Friction Movement for Hovering Bodies
Put mechanics and dynamics demonstrations in motion with this multi-purpose equipment system. Illustrate thermal motion of atoms and molecules in various states of aggregation, electrical conduction processes, models of atomic physics, and mechanical motion. The air-cushion principle as well as the use of magnetic forces allows objects to hover in a nearly zero-friction state. Characterized by a clear and simple design, the table is easy to operate and requires minimum preparation. A robust frame supports a pressure chamber, with a cover plate furnished with 1089 fine perforations, that serves as an experimentation surface. Air is supplied to the pressure chamber by a blower through a hose, causing the included colored bodies to hover. An additional air stream from an impulse valve makes it possible to alter the motion of the hovering bodies.
Modify the table for a variety of experiments with these included parts and fixtures:
Lattice Model with Fixture Demonstrating the principle of a crystal lattice during experiments on electrical conduction processes in semiconductors. The lattice model consists of a height-adjustable plexiglass plate from which 25 freely oscillating ceramic magnets are suspended.
Magnetic Barriers Use these to modify the plastic-bordered experimentation surface to allow elastic collisions between the hovering bodies and the borders.
Magnetic Hovering Bodies Hovering bodies moving on the air cushion simulate particle motion. Five different types of bodies are included with the table — 30 red plastic, 25 green plastic, 25 orange plastic, and blue plastic bodies, plus five aluminum capped bodies with round ceramic magnets.
Electrodes Two rod-shaped metal electrodes can be positioned in parallel with the experimentation surface in order to generate an electrical field. The effect of electrical fields on charged particles can also be simulated by inclining the experimentation surface.
The air-cushion table also includes two adjustment screws, a manipulation rod, tweezers, magnetic piston for displaying changes in volume, an experiment manual, and wooden storage box. Size: 35 x 35 x 7.5cm; weight: 13 lbs. Requires an air supply, available separately.
