Boyle’s Law & Absolute Zero Demonstration Apparatus for the Overhead Projector

Direct, accurate projections graphically illustrate the basic relationship between pressure, volume and temperature of gases. To illustrate Boyle’s Law, the plexiglass demonstrator is placed on an overhead projector. The calibrated syringe is connected to the pressure gauge. As the volume of gas in the syringe is varied, the students can see the corresponding pressure change projected on the screen. Students can graph the results to produce a hyperbolic curve. To demonstrate absolute zero, a one-piece metal sphere (containing a gas) is connected to the same pressure gauge. When the sphere is immersed in water at different temperatures, the pressure changes can be read directly from the scale on the screen. Students graph the temperature vs. pressure readings and extrapolate to determine absolute zero. With instructions.
