Study the moment of inertia of an hollow cylinder and of disks of different masses and dimensions with this durable equipment. Mounted the included cylinders and discs on the low friction system to perform qualitative and quantitative observations. One disk and the hollow cylinder can also be made heavier by adding masses. The unit is supplied with an air blower that connects to the apparatus, allowing for a strong reduction of friction that provides an air cushion between the rotating platform and its support. The apparatus can be used both with an electronic timer and photogates, or with a datalogger system with a computer interface. The experiments investigate a disk’s and cylinder’s moment of inertia using an experimental or theoretical approach, friction’s moment, eddy currents and magnetic friction, and the parallel axis theorem.
