Dark surfaces absorb radiation more than light ones. Here’s an easy experiment to prove it! Just fill the two cans in this kit with water. Put thermometers in their tops and heat with an infrared lamp. Except for their finish, the aluminum cans are identical and are made of the same metal. One has a bright, metallic finish; the other is coated in dull black. Each can has a screw top you remove to add heated water, with a hole in the top to insert a thermometer. Kit includes two 8.5 x 11.5cm cans. Thermometers and infrared lamp not included. Both include instructions containing discussion and experiment suggestions.
