An outstanding tool for illustrating the effects of moment of inertia, the polymer disk and the metal hoop have equal diameters (15cm) and equal masses. Despite these similarities, the effect of their different mass distribution is striking. When you place the ring and disk on an inclined plane and release them, they accelerate at noticeably different rates as they roll. The smaller moment of inertia of the polymer disk leads to a larger acceleration, although both have the same kinetic energy at the bottom of the ramp. Includes complete operating instructions.
