Steam Engine Model |
No longer in frequent use, the steam engine was one of the first inventions which sparked an industrial revolution. This all metallic model enables you to show how this once revolutionary engine works well still today. The metal cylinder is section cut and covered with a glass plate for easy viewing within. Working parts include a piston and slide valve, so link motion and reversing method can be observed. The movement of the wheel can even be demonstrated by blowing on it. Size: 38 x 12 x 16 cm.

 - Tuesday, October 11, 2011 Wonderful Steam Engine Model. Reviewed By: KnoxKane (Dayton, OH) The first time I became aware that something like this existed was at the theory Class for my behind the throttle experience on the Valley Railroad in Essex CT April 2011. This is where for a significant sum of money they allow you to drive their steam locomotive for 1 hour. Senior Engineer Dave Conrad used a much older device very simalar to this one in his class to demonstrate Steam Engine Theory. His was dated 1910 and sold by the Central Scientific Co. of Chicago. . This item is so similar to the 1910 model that I believe it is latter version of the same design. This one is made in India. What's new is the ability to blow on a hose to make it go. Hose not provided but you can get one at any hardware store. The reversing lever works and changes the direction of the flywheel. It works very well. It like the 1910 model is mostly metal though not quite as heavy. The cutaway lets you see how the cylinder valves work. When I first got it, the glass on the cutaway was broken but Sargent quickly made it right. If you are into steam locomotives you've got to have one of these. I am not aware of anywhere else you can get one. KKRR
