The direct-reading, dial-type micrometer mounted on our Young’s Modulus Apparatus is sensitive to movements as small as 0.01mm — ensuring precise measurements when studying the elongation of a wire. The apparatus consists of two 150cm heavy duty steel rods mounted vertically on a heavy cast-iron tripod base. A yoke at the top of the rods supports a collet, which holds the top of the test wire in place. The wire passes through the micrometer measuring area where it is clamped onto a pin vise, and then connects to a mass hanger (included). The mass hanger has a mass of 1kg (±1g) and will support up to 12 1kg slotted masses. To measure the elongation of the wire, simply add the masses and read from the micrometer dial. It’s that simple. The complete kit also includes two steel test wires of different diameters and a slotted mass set containing two 1kg masses, two 2kg masses, and one 5kg mass.
